Detects when Curl makes an outbound network connection to a raw IP address in order to download a script (shell, apple, or python) or unsigned/untrusted binary. Many different types of malware use this in order to download additional payloads to a victim system.

Stages and Predicates

Ordered sequence: each step below must occur in order within 1m, correlated by process.entity_id.

Stage 1: network

[network where event.type == "start" and process.name in ("curl", "nscurl") and destination.domain == null and
   not cidrmatch(destination.ip,
       "240.0.0.0/4", "233.252.0.0/24", "224.0.0.0/4", "198.19.0.0/16", "192.18.0.0/15",

Stage 2: file

[file where event.action == "modification" and file.extension in ("sh", "py", "scpt") and
